Welcome to The Healthy Pond!

Healthy Pond looks at pond science from the perspective of a fish veterinarian. We do not practice veterinary medicine, but take the concepts and apply them to everyday pond maintenance and fish husbandry. Our pledge is to bring accurate, unbiased information to our valued customers so they may create their own Healthy Pond.

Healthy Water… Good water quality is the foundation of life in a healthy pond. Mechanical and biological filtration plays an important part in keeping the water clean. Poor water condition leads to failure in maintaining a healthy aquatic environment. Regular water testing, water changes, and adequate filtration are the answer.

Healthy Plants… Aquatic plants turn a plain pond into a natural looking waterscape. They are also an essential part of a healthy pond. A balance between water, plants, and fish is necessary for good water quality. Plants remove toxins from the water and generate shade on sunny days.

Healthy Fish… No pond is complete without fish. Koi and goldfish add color and movement to your pond. They provide nutrition to your aquatic plants and entertainment to all who see your pond. Diet is important for maintaining overall fish health. Quarantining new additions to your collection will protect your fish from parasites and disease. Koi and goldfish health management is a specialty at Healthy Pond.

Occam’s Razor... all things being equal, the simplest answer tends to be the right one!
